The first type of rapid weight loss we will discuss is fad or “crash” diets. These diets promise rapid weight loss and usually deliver. The health benefits are many. Eating habits are changed to a healthier regime, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels are usually lowered, and the risk of obesity-related diseases is reduced. However, there are risks. Even though weight loss is attained quickly, the weight is often put back on and often the patient ends up gaining more weight. It can also cause some of the more serious health issues mentioned above. If you decide that a fad diet is for you then you must be ready to change your lifestyle. This means low fat, well-balanced nutritional intake of foods. It also means exercise and behavioral therapy. And your physician should monitor you at all times while you are dieting.
These are the most popular fad or crash diets and a basic summation of what they do and how they work.
Started more than 40 years ago by Jean Nidetech. This diet is not as much a rapid weight loss program as it is a long-term solution for weight management. It is based on group support and they also use a scientific advisory board to keep up with trends and new dietary regulations from the FDA. This diet offers a range of foods assigned a point value rather than restricting certain foods. On the first visit, you will be given a food diary and a point allotment, which will be monitored in the food diary on a daily basis. Many restaurants often offer Weight Watchers entrees and give the point values. There are other places such as Jenny Craig that offer the same type of weight loss management program and food consumption plan.
